On a day where many people in the country are feeling let down by the result of the election, punk duo Slaves have appropriately released the music video for their new track Cheer Up London.
Taken from the debut album Are You Satisfied?, the track’s full of heavy guitar riffs, dark motifs and powerfully insistent drum rhythms which emphasise the anger within the band’s music. It’s quite easy to say that the ideas of the track are reflecting of the way most people in London are feeling right now with looming cuts and disappointment, but to this the Kentish duo say ‘cheer up London you’re already dead and it’s not that bad’ and, although the song isn’t actually about this election, the ideas can be easily applied. The band are effectively saying ‘we have to deal with it’ so, with it’s aggressive and violent melodies, I find myself shouting back the lyrics and assuaging any anger – whatever it may be caused by.
It’s certainly another angry and passionate anthem from Slaves along with the likes of The Hunter and Feed The Mantaray which are expected to be seen on the debut album due for release on June 6th.
